Update of Apple iPhone 16 following a non-compliance related to parental controls
[Translate to English:]
As part of its market surveillance mission relating to the implementation of parental controls on internet access devices in accordance with Law No. 2022-300 of 2 March 2022, ANFR carried out an inspection of Apple's iPhone 16.
The analyses revealed that, in certain cases involving minors over the age of 15, the device did not comply with the regulatory requirement to offer the activation of parental control settings when the equipment was first put into service.
ANFR issued a formal notice to Apple to take corrective measures to remedy the non-compliance identified. Apple took corrective measures and, on 15 September 2025, released the necessary fix for iPhone 16 devices in its iOS 26 update.
ANFR has verified the effectiveness of this measure. The changes ensure parental controls can be activated when the device is first initialised, which puts an end to the non-compliance identified.
The changes incorporated into iOS 26 correct the defect found on iPhone 16 devices and should also benefit other models using iOS 26.
ANFR invites owners of these phones to check that they have iOS 26 or a later version. If this is not the case, a manual update must be performed.
