The main European standardisation bodies are the CEN, the CENELEC and the ETSI. The CEN has a general jurisdiction but does not act in the field of frequencies. The CENELEC has jurisdiction in electro-technical and electromagnetic compatibility matters. The ETSI has jurisdiction in information technology matters, in particular on radio equipment. It should be noted that both the CENELEC and the ETSI have jurisdiction in electromagnetic compatibility matters, but the ETSI covers radio equipment whereas the CENELEC covers other electric equipment.
ETSI is an international standards organisation recognised by the European Commission. It draws up standards for information and communications technology. To find out more: www.etsi.org/
